Many people question if games are an actual art or if they can be considered something else rather then killing all the time. I believe that just as books or movies(hell even music) has strayed away from violence, so can video games.
Take a look at Flower for the ps3
This game in itself proves that video games can be an art form without killing. but the question is can the mainstream public actually accept it as fun? yes and no. Sure you will have people that actually appreciate this game and value its artistic integrity, but for everyone of those people there is someone who wants to get another kill streak in cod4: mw2.
However Take ico/shadow of the colossus.
this also can be considered an artistic medium even though there is some killing in it. It puts you in a world you WANT to explore. where going out into the world and appreciating the landscapes comes first, rather then killing. Also these games do what few do. They make you care for the character and put you into an emotional journey.
Then theres my personal favorite. Okami.
This game is not only visually interesting. But tells a tale based on Shinto religion and makes it very deep and very interesting. this game is artistic in many ways visually and emotionally. But surprisingly it wasn't really received well toward the public(sales wise). I believe if the game companies can advertise and gear other games to these types of games, games could be considered an artistic medium.
